Don't Burn Bridges

There's a certain drama in the phrase, "burning bridges."

It sounds bold, defiant, powerful.

But in reality, burning bridges is rarely about strength.

Most of the time, it's about emotion, because burning a bridge isn't just leaving a job, a partnership, or a collaboration. It's leaving in a way that damages relationships and closes future opportunities, that my not be opened again.

I don't encourage burning bridges. Why cut the bond that was established because things didn't go your way at this particular time?

Sometimes, the most powerful move is not burning the bridge. It's walking across it calmly, knowing you chose integrity over impulse. Because in business and real life, you never truly know which bridges you may need to cross again.

And when that day comes, you'll be glad you left it standing.
