I envy and admire one of our speakers in our business class.

She narrated how, at a very young age, she already valued hard work. She experienced going to bed hungry because there was no food on the table. The following day, they would wake up not knowing where their next meal would come from. Sometimes, they had to drink water just to feel a little full; their stomach hurt, but there was nothing they could do.

Life felt unfair. She saw others with more food, more comfort, more chances, but they just keep getting by, surviving. Some days, she narrated, it was hard to smile, but somehow she kept going, even with an empty stomach and a heavy heart.  She vowed to work hard to improve their life.

And worked hard she did! She supported herself through college, studied hard to maintain a scholarship. After college, she got a job, but also had several side businesses. She did the necessary, difficult, and uncomfortable. She had a goal to achieve: to get out of a difficult life.

She succeeded!

I know of people who were able to do the same. Single mom or parents. Life started out difficult, yet they were able to overcome. Admirable!

... to the next stage.

As you enter a new season, habits that previously served you well may need to be refreshed or adjusted.

In my case, at home, the kitchen was never my happy place. Ha ha! You will never see me in the kitchen, until about 3 or 4 years ago.

Now, I find joy in whipping up dishes, and lately I've been experimenting with some recipes that my bosses at home are happy about.

Career-wise, I was big on time management and proactive communication, maybe because I had a boss hovering all the time. But now, I am my own boss, so I slack off. Since I run my own business now, I need to be stricter on myself.

Which one of your current habits have you outgrown and is in need of change?

The city rises around me.

Tall buildings, rushing cars, endless noise. Everywhere I look, someone or something is moving. It's easy to disappear in a place like this. Everyone is busy. No one makes eye contact. It feels like the city eats you---slowly, without even noticing.

That's why every chance I get, I catch something real. A flower growing through a crack in the sidewalk, green leaves covering canopies, a kitten meowing in the corner.

Those moments remind me that not everything is lost. Even in this jungle of buildings and noise, something simple and human can survive.

Rain hammered the roof in steady pulses. The sound was everywhere—on the windows, the gutters, the ground. A soft, roaring cocoon. The kind of rain that makes you hesitate to rise, not just because of the cold outside the covers, but because it seems to wash away urgency itself.
I lay still for a while, listening. There was something strangely grounding about the storm, how it reminded me that the world spins whether I move or not. That nature has its rhythms, and today, they didn’t align with alarms or schedules.
Outside, the trees swayed under the weight of the water, their leaves slick and trembling. The pavement below was already glossed with puddles.
For a brief moment, I felt a sense of gratitude. Not for the rain itself, but for what it gave me: stillness. A reason to pause. A chance to just be unhurried, untouched, tucked inside a quiet space where thoughts could unfurl slowly, like the mist rising from the earth.
I didn’t rush to dress. Instead, I let myself listen to the downpour, letting it scrub the corners of my mind clean, one drop at a time.

P.S. There is something about the rain that always makes me miss home--the home where I grew up. Do you feel the same?

A blessing of being able to do lies in the quiet power of action. It’s the grace of having the capacity — physical, mental, or emotional — to engage, to create, to help, or even simply to try.

Not everyone has the luxury of doing. To be able to do so, in any form, is to be entrusted with the chance to shape your world and impact others. Even small acts — a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, a single step forward — carry profound meaning.

Lao Tzu says, "Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished."

It suggests that patience and trusting the natural process can lead to fulfilling results… just like what’s happening with this bougainvillea.

I got branches of white bougainvilleas last May when we stayed overnight in Tirta Spring Villa. As the lady caretaker advised, I must put the branches first in water and after a day, plant them in a pot. I planted the branches in 2 pots. 2 branches in each pot. After a day or two, the old leaves and flowers started to dry and fall off. What was left were the twigs, empty and seemingly lonely.

One morning, I saw that the twigs were swimming in water.

I told the hubs, who waters the plants every morning, to pour just the right amount of water, and if he sees that the soil is still damp, he can skip watering.

So I waited for the twigs to bloom again, and every chance I got, I would talk to them, “Hello, beautiful! I am excited to see your blooms!” Yes, I do! Ha ha!

For weeks and months, nothing seems to be happening. But still, I waited and was hopeful.

And voila! This morning, I saw beautiful, tiny white bougainvillea flowers growing out of the twigs!

I am giddy!!!

It’s the same with everything else in life. Your wish will come true… one day. As long as you keep at it. Put on the right effort, the right amount of attention and focus, and love and care every day, and boom it will happen!

The pancakes bring warmth and comfort, especially when topped with butter 🧈 and syrup.

Coffee, strong and aromatic, cuts through the sweetness and wakes you up with just enough edge.

Together, they balance indulgence and energy: soft and rich meet bold and sharp.

I hardly have breakfast on a regular day, but today is an exception as I have a leadership camp to go to.

Today, I remember a special memory. I would see my parents have breakfast together. They start with 1 pandesal, which Hutsai would break into 2, give the half share to Baliling, and together they would dip it in coffee or milk.

It’s not just a meal—it’s a morning ritual.

Here I am sitting in a corner at Starbucks. I am an hour early to my training today.
Early is on time, as my friend Lisa of Bistro Group would say.

Monday.

It has been a while since I experienced the early Monday morning rush. I forget the flurry of movement and urgency, marked by the collective transition from weekend rest to weekday routine.
There’s a quiet tension to the rush, less frantic than chaotic, more like a machine warming up for the week. Even the sky today looks unready to show the sun's rays.
I reached my building just in time for the rain to pour… and became drizzle to make way for a beautiful, dewy morning.
The air feels slightly heavier with purpose—streets fill with cars, buses hiss at stops, and sidewalks bustle with people clutching their bags and damp umbrellas, and checking the time.
This Monday is a daily ritual for many, but Mondays carry a special edge: the sense of starting over, whether you’re ready or not.
Happy Monday! ☀️🌞😃

The saying, "Walk the talk," is true.

I just realized that you will sound empty when you talk about things to do, yet don't do it yourself.

I myself get conscious when I talk about things people should be doing or accomplishing when I myself isn't into it.

So, do it first!

I never thought I could whip up delicious dishes.

I never learned how to cook because I had my mom do it for us even if we had helpers at home. Knowing that I didn't know how to cook when I got married, my husband saw to it that we would have someone cook for us, except for noche buena and media noche. I would attempt to cook during these special occasions.

But when my angel went home to retire three years ago, I had no choice but to learn to cook, and surprisingly, I now enjoy cooking. Blending, mixing ingredients, and churning out a delicious meal is a joy.

I am posting my cooking videos on Meikah's Web Facebook Page.
