Calling All Bird Lovers Out There!

I remember around this time, I received a box of gift cards from a good friend, and I love each gift card because in each one of them was a carefully taken photograph of  birds by different photographers. These birds were UP Diliman's avian treasures.

So, when I found out that the Manila International Book Fair will be featuring two books on bird photography, I got excited and can't help share the good news to all of you.

And it is launching today!

PRESS RELEASE

MANILA INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR FEATURES BOOKS FOR BIRD LOVERS
All Birds of the World and Birds of the Philippines to be launched November 27

Mr. Alain Pascua, a man of many passions: ornithologist (expert on birds), wild bird photographer, and public servant.

Manila, Philippines, 26 November 2020 – Ornithophiles, or lovers of birds, will be happy to know that Haring Ibon-Birds in Focus, Inc. will be launching two books on bird photography, both published by Lynx Edicions, during the ongoing all-virtual Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) 2020.

Founded in 1989 in Barcelona, Spain, Lynx Edicions is a publishing house committed to providing high-quality ornithology and natural history books. Dr. Josep del Hoyo, Senior Editor and co-founder of Lynx Edicions will be at the virtual launch via Facebook Live on the MIBF page on Friday, November 27 at 10am, and will give us an overview of the importance of these two books on the birds of the world and the Philippines.

The iconic Philippine Eagle photograph “Ang Banog” is featured on the cover of All the Birds of the World. The mesmerizing photograph, taken by acclaimed Filipino wild bird photographer Alain Pascua in 2010 at the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao City, has since garnered international attention and various accolades for its remarkable rarity and strong conservationist message. The portrait has also been exhibited at the Wild Bird Photography Exhibit in 2012 and Manila FAME in 2013, and was adopted by the Zoological Society of London’s global conservation initiative EDGE of Existence programme as its graphic image in 2014.

All the Birds of the World was created for a broad public, from novice birders to expert ornithologists and anyone interested in the spectacular diversity of birds, with over 20,000 illustrations of bird species and subspecies, over 11,000 distribution maps, and all 3313 one-country endemic species marked.

The guidebook Birds of the Philippines, which celebrates the endemic, resident, and migratory birds found across the country’s 7,100 islands, will also be released together with All the Birds of the World. With ornithologist Desmond Allen as author, the book features colorful illustrations of the Philippines’ most sought-after species like the Palawan Peacock-Pheasant and the regal Philippine Eagle, as well as an array of pigeons, owls, hornbills, and many others. The book also includes the local conservation status of each species to help raise awareness about biodiversity in the country.

The launch of these two books will have the following notable Filipino scientists and special guests: Prof. Blas Tabaranza, Jr., Professor of Ornithology and President Emeritus of the Wildlife Conservation Society of the Philippines, Mr. Winfred Paler, President of the Wild Bird Photographers of the Philippines (WBPP),  Mr. Mike Lu, President of the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP), Dr. Juan Carlos Gonzales, Professor of Ornithology and Director of the Museum of Natural History UP Los Banos, and Dr. Angel Alcala, Multi-awarded Biologist and National Scientist.

Limited copies of All the Birds of the World and Birds of the Philippines will be available at exclusive discounts through Haring Ibon-Birds in Focus at the 2020 Manila International Online Book Fair.
