How Valentine's Day Evolves with Grown-up Kids

Valentine's at Marriott Hotel Manila pre pandemic | February 14, 2020

These photos were snapped last year when we went to watch the Valentine concert of Rachel Ann Go featuring Lea Salonga.

We were walking ahead of our sons to the venue, Grand Ballroom of the Mariott Hotel, and our sons called us so we turned, and they clicked! LOL. We were unaware that they were taking photos of us.

Relationship with your husband, or your married life, evolves with the coming of your children. Occasions like anniversaries and Valentine's, which used to be occasions for couples become family adventures.

Our children started joining us in our dates when they turned teenagers. In our case, Wizheart and I don't mind because it's a different kind of fun, too, when you celebrate Valentine's and anniversaries with your kids. We go on exclusive dates at least once a week, anyway.

Now that our kids are much older--our elder is 21 years old and our younger, 18 years old--our kids are now the ones who orchestrate surprises. LOL. So, we end up getting two gifts and surprises.

I know when our kids are still little, we thought things couldn't get better. As a new mother, you lose sleep, and you feel like a nursing cow. All you do is feed your baby, bathe him, put him to sleep and repeat. If you have more than one child, that activity multiplies. Ha ha!

When kids grow bigger and reach toddler stage, that's the time you wish you were an energy machine that doesn't go low batt, because toddlers never run out of energy. When they reach puberty, you pray for bottomless patience and wisdom because they are going through changes, which they might not understand themselves.

But when they get past these stages, and you were with them every step of the way, things do get better. Much much better. Your relationship with your children are stronger and you are now able to interact and be more open with each other.

Married life actually gets better and more fun with grown up kids.

Try it!
